Treatment
and Stabilisation of Oil Refinery Residues
A treatment process was developed for the residues from the
treatment of waste waters and surface run off from an Oil
Refinery in the USA which were previously lagooned and then
periodically land farmed.
These residues contained varying proportions of oils and
oily solids together with wasted biomass from the existing
biological treatment process which formed the final treatment
stage for these waters before they were discharged.
As a result of the RPA developed process, virtually all of
this oil was recovered and the final weight of material which
had to be shipped off site for hazardous waste disposal was
approximately 20% of that which would have been produced by
the alternative proposals which were about to be installed
prior to the RPA involvement. In addition, the principal treatment
reagent that was required for the RPA process was an existing
site produced waste.
