| Treatment
and Stabilisation of Cellulose Fibre Residues
Wasted biomass from the Site’s activated sludge waste
water treatment plant had been pumped to two large lagoons
(approx 3 hectares each). Both lagoons were full and there
were significant odour issues.
RPA developed a treatment process whereby the gelatinous,
approx. 10% by weight solids content lagoon contents could
be pump dredged, treated to remove odour and active sulphides
and dewatered to form a stable solid residue. This residue
was suitable for direct trucking to a dedicated mono-landfill
and for placement and compaction using wheeled equipment.
Again, the principal reagent that was required for the process
was an existing site produced waste.
